Want the clips made automatically?

ClipX finds the best moments in a long video, cuts them to 9:16, follows faces and adds captions. One video a day is free, up to 3 hours long. Pro is $4.99 for the first month, then $20/month.

The first two seconds decide whether a short video gets watched or swiped away. A hook is the line that earns those seconds, said out loud, shown on screen, or both. The same line, cut down, often makes a good title.

This generator fills tested hook patterns with your topic. It does not use AI and it sends nothing anywhere: the patterns are fixed, so the same topic gives the same ideas, and More ideas shows another set. Treat the results as a starting point and make each one true to your video.

How it works

1

Describe the video

Type the topic in a few words, such as meal prep on a budget. Add who it is for if you like.

2

Pick the styles

Choose any of six styles: curiosity, mistake, list, hot take, story and how-to.

3

Pick, edit, test

Copy the lines you like, rewrite them in your own words and check the length. Try two versions on two clips to see which one holds viewers.

What you get

  • Ten ideas per round, mixed across the styles you pick
  • A character count, with a warning past 60 and past 100
  • Same topic, same ideas: nothing changes at random between visits
  • No sign-up and nothing sent to a server
  • Any line copied in one tap

Six hook styles and when to use them

Pick the style that matches what the clip actually delivers. A hook that promises more than the clip shows gets swiped, and that hurts the reach of the next video too.

  • Curiosity: hint at something the viewer does not know yet. Best when the payoff comes quickly.
  • Mistake: name an error the viewer may be making. Works for tutorials and advice.
  • List: promise a number of tips. Clear and easy to finish, so it suits short clips.
  • Hot take: go against common advice. Use it only when the clip backs it up.
  • Story: start in the middle of something that happened. Good for vlogs and podcasts.
  • How-to: promise a result and a short path to it. Best for titles people search for.

How long should a Shorts title or hook be?

YouTube allows up to 100 characters in a title, but phones show far less in the Shorts feed, often around 40 to 60. Put the words that matter first. A spoken hook should take about two seconds, which is five to eight words.

Hooks that come from the video itself

The strongest hook is often a line someone already said in the video. ClipX reads the transcript of a long video, picks moments that open with a strong line, and writes a title for each clip. You can change any title in the editor before you post. One video a day is free to process and preview.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hook generator free?

Yes. It is free, has no limit and needs no account. It runs in your browser.

Does this use AI?

No. It fills fixed, hand-written templates with your topic, so it is instant and works offline. The main ClipX product does use AI to find the best moments in your videos and to write clip titles.

Can I use these for TikTok and Reels?

Yes. The patterns work on any short-video platform. Use the line as on-screen text in the first second, as the spoken opening, or in the caption.

Why do I get the same ideas for the same topic?

The order is fixed per topic, so the page behaves the same each time you come back. Press More ideas for a different set, or change the wording of the topic.

Should I post the ideas as they are?

Edit them first. A hook must match what the clip shows in the next few seconds. Change the words so they sound like you, and remove anything the clip does not deliver.
