Auto Captions for Shorts
Every clip ClipX cuts from a long video comes with word-by-word captions already on it. Pick a style, fix any word the transcript got wrong, and move the captions clear of the platform's buttons.
One free video a day. No credit card. Cancel any time.
This page is for creators who want captioned Shorts, Reels and TikToks without typing or timing a single subtitle. Many people scroll with the sound off, so a clip without captions can lose a viewer before they ever hear it.
To be clear about what ClipX is: it makes captioned clips from a longer video. It is not a subtitle editor for a short you have already finished. If you have a long recording, ClipX finds the clips and captions them in one pass. If you only need subtitles on a video you already cut, a caption-only tool is the simpler choice.
How it works
Add a long video
Paste a YouTube, Twitch, Kick or Vimeo link, or upload a file up to 500 MB. The video must be at least 30 seconds long; longer recordings give ClipX more to choose from.
ClipX transcribes and cuts
ClipX transcribes every word with its timing, picks the clips and puts word-by-word captions on each one. You upload no subtitle file and time nothing by hand.
Style and correct
Choose a caption style. Click any word in the transcript to fix its spelling, and the caption changes with it. Drag the captions up or down; they snap to a high, middle or lower position.
Export with the captions burned in
Pro exports a 1080×1920 MP4 with the captions in the picture, so they show on every platform and in every player.
What you get
- Word-by-word captions with the spoken word highlighted
- Several caption styles, chosen per clip
- Fix any word; censor a word to mask it and bleep the audio
- Caption positions that snap high, middle or low
- Captions burned into a 1080×1920 export
Getting the words right
ClipX transcribes the audio itself, word by word, instead of relying on a platform's automatic subtitles. For a YouTube link it falls back to YouTube's own captions only when its own transcription fails.
No transcription is perfect. Names, brands, slang and game terms are the usual misses. Open the transcript in the editor, click the word, type the right spelling, and the caption on the clip changes with it. Censor masks a word in the caption and bleeps it in the audio.
ClipX detects the spoken language on its own. English has had the most testing; check captions in other languages more closely.
Where the captions should sit
TikTok, Reels and Shorts all put text and buttons over the bottom and the right side of a video. Captions that sit too low end up under the account name. Drag the captions in the editor until they are clear of that area, then check the clip in the preview before you export.
On clips with a title above the video (Full Fit + Title), captions placed below the video keep the title and the captions apart.
When to use a different tool
- You need an SRT or VTT subtitle file. ClipX burns captions into the video; it does not export subtitle files.
- You want to caption a finished video as a whole, without cutting it. ClipX picks clips from a longer video.
- You need captions translated into another language. ClipX captions in the language that is spoken.
Frequently asked questions
Are the captions free?
Captions come on every clip on every plan. On the free plan you can process one video a day, up to 3 hours long, and edit and preview every captioned clip. Exporting needs Pro: $4.99 for the first month, then $20/month, or $200/year.
Can I edit the captions?
Yes. Click any word in the transcript to change it, pick a different style, or move the captions. The changes show in the preview at once.
Can I turn the captions off?
Yes. Each clip has a Captions switch in the editor.
Do the captions work in other languages?
ClipX detects the spoken language and captions in that language. English has had the most testing. Captions are not translated.
Can I download an SRT file?
No. ClipX burns the captions into the video. If you need a separate subtitle file, use a caption-only tool.
