Interview Clip Maker

Turn a recorded interview into short vertical clips of the best answers. ClipX finds the moments worth clipping, keeps both people on screen when they talk to each other and adds captions.

One free video a day. No credit card. Cancel any time.

This page is for journalists, podcasters with guests, brand teams and creators who record interviews, whether in a studio, on location or over a video call. The best part of an interview is usually a single answer, and an answer only works as a clip if the viewer can tell what was asked.

ClipX ranks moments by how well they stand alone, and it cuts at sentence boundaries, so a clip starts at the start of a thought. When the clip needs the question too, you pull the start back in the editor until the question is in.

How it works

1

Add the interview

Paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch or Kick link, or upload the file (up to 500 MB). Set the content type to Podcast / interview, so each clip is one question and answer or one story. Confirm that you have permission from the people in it.

2

Let ClipX find the answers

ClipX transcribes the conversation and ranks the moments that make sense on their own: a clear answer, a surprising fact, a story with an ending.

3

Frame both speakers

Dual Face stacks the two people, one above the other. Auto (per shot) changes the framing at each camera cut when the interview was filmed with several cameras. Face Zoom follows a single speaker.

4

Edit and export

Correct names in the captions, move the start to include the question, and export 1080×1920 MP4s on Pro.

What you get

  • Dual Face layout for two people in one vertical frame
  • Auto (per shot) framing for multi-camera interviews
  • Clips that start and end on full sentences
  • Extend a clip up to 60 seconds earlier or later in the editor
  • Editable captions, and Remove pauses for slow answers

Two people, one vertical frame

A wide shot of two people turns into a thin strip when you crop it to 9:16. Dual Face fixes this by giving each person their own half of the frame, one above the other, so both faces stay large.

Interviews filmed with several cameras cut between a wide shot and close-ups. Auto (per shot) chooses the framing for each shot: it follows the face in a close-up and splits the frame when both people are in view. The framing changes only on a camera cut, never in the middle of a shot.

Remote interviews recorded side by side on a call work the same way: each person is a face in the frame, and Dual Face stacks them.

Keep the question in the clip

An answer without its question is confusing. There are three ways to fix it: drag the start of the clip back to the question in the editor; put the question in the title with Full Fit + Title; or add it as on-screen text over the first seconds.

ClipX cuts at the start of a sentence, so a clip never opens halfway through a word. If the interviewer's question is long, the title is usually the cleaner choice.

Good to know

  • Get consent from the people you interview before you post clips of them. ClipX asks you to confirm your rights for each video.
  • Phone-call and audio-only interviews cannot be uploaded; ClipX needs a video file.
  • In a very wide shot where the faces are tiny, ClipX does not zoom into them; use Full Fit + Title to show the whole frame.
  • Uploads are limited to 500 MB, and every source to 3 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Is the interview clip maker free?

You can process one video a day for free, up to 3 hours long, and edit and preview every clip ClipX finds. Exporting finished clips needs Pro: $4.99 for the first month, then $20/month, or $200/year. Pro has unlimited videos and exports, with no watermark.

Can it show both people at the same time?

Yes. Dual Face stacks the two speakers in one vertical frame. Auto (per shot) does it only for the shots where both people are in view.

Will the clip include the interviewer's question?

Not always. ClipX picks the strongest part, which is often the answer alone. Drag the clip's start back in the editor, by up to 60 seconds, or put the question in the title.

Does it work for interviews in other languages?

ClipX detects the spoken language and transcribes it. English has had the most testing, so check the captions more closely in other languages.

Can ClipX publish the clips?

On Pro, ClipX can publish to YouTube directly. For TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, export the MP4 and post it yourself.
