YouTube to Instagram Reels Converter

Turn a YouTube video into Instagram Reels. Paste the link, and ClipX picks the moments that work on their own, reframes them to 9:16 around the speaker and adds captions for people who watch with the sound off.

One free video a day. No credit card. Cancel any time.

This page is for YouTubers who already make long videos and want to reach people on Instagram without editing a second channel's worth of content. A long YouTube video usually holds several moments that work as Reels: a strong opinion, a useful tip, a story with an ending. ClipX finds them and turns each one into a vertical clip.

Reels are watched on a phone, often muted, and judged in the first second. That shapes three things ClipX does by default: it frames the clip around the person talking, it adds word-by-word captions, and it ranks the clips by how strongly they open.

How it works

1

Paste your YouTube link

Any YouTube video you own or have the rights to use: a normal upload, a live replay or an unlisted video. Long videos are fine, up to 3 hours.

2

Choose a length and a focus

Auto lets each Reel end where its moment ends; Short keeps every clip under a minute. To steer the picks, type a few words in Focus Topics, such as "life advice" or "hot takes".

3

Review and style

ClipX ranks the clips. Open one to change the caption style, move the captions clear of Instagram's buttons, trim the start or add a title.

4

Export and post to Instagram

Pro exports a 1080×1920 MP4 with no watermark. Get it onto your phone and post it as a Reel from the Instagram app. Direct posting to Instagram from ClipX is not open yet.

What you get

  • 9:16 vertical at 1080×1920, the Reels format
  • A crop that follows the speaker, or Dual Face for two people
  • Word-by-word captions you can restyle and correct
  • A hook title layout for clips that need context
  • One free video a day to edit and preview; exports on Pro

Making a YouTube moment work as a Reel

A moment that works inside a YouTube video often leans on what came before it. As a Reel it has to stand alone. ClipX looks for moments with their own setup and ending, and it starts each clip at the beginning of a sentence instead of in the middle of one.

Instagram puts the caption text, the account name and the buttons over the bottom and the right side of a Reel. Keep your captions away from that area: in the editor you drag them, and they snap to a high, middle or lower position. Check the clip in the preview before you export.

One clip, three platforms

A Reel, a YouTube Short and a TikTok have the same shape: 9:16, vertical, captioned. You can post the same export on all three. On Pro, ClipX can publish to YouTube directly; for Instagram and TikTok you post the MP4 yourself.

Watch the first second of each clip before you export. If it opens on a pause or an "um", trim the start in the editor, or use Remove pauses to cut dead air from the whole clip.

What you need to know

  • Use videos you own or have permission to use. Reposting someone else's YouTube video as a Reel can break their copyright, and ClipX asks you to confirm your rights for each video.
  • Private and members-only videos cannot be opened. Public and unlisted ones can.
  • ClipX picks moments from speech. Music videos and videos with no talking are not a good fit.
  • Free accounts edit and preview; exporting needs Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Is the YouTube to Reels converter free?

You can process one video a day for free, up to 3 hours long, and edit and preview every clip ClipX finds. Exporting finished clips needs Pro: $4.99 for the first month, then $20/month, or $200/year. Pro has unlimited videos and exports, with no watermark.

Can I turn someone else's YouTube video into Reels?

Only with the owner's permission. ClipX asks you to confirm that you own each video or have the rights to use it before it processes anything.

Does ClipX post to Instagram directly?

Not yet. Export the MP4 and post it from the Instagram app. On a phone you can share the file straight from ClipX.

What size are the Reels?

1080×1920 pixels, 9:16, as MP4 files.

How is this different from the YouTube to TikTok converter?

The engine is the same. This page covers what matters for Instagram: muted viewing, Instagram's on-screen buttons and posting from your phone. The clips work on both platforms.
