Apex Legends Clip Maker

Apex Legends streams, cut into upright videos ready for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. With the saved VOD, ClipX ranks the fights the streamer reacts to, stacks the webcam over the game and captions what is said.

Free plan to try it: process, edit and preview your clips. Exports need Pro.

This tool fits Apex streamers who want short videos out of their own sessions, and clippers who cut a streamer's Apex VODs with that streamer's approval.

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale from Respawn Entertainment, published by Electronic Arts. Squads of three pick Legends with their own abilities, drop onto the map with up to 19 other squads, and fight while a ring closes in. A single game can be long rotations and looting with one fight at the end, or a hot drop that is over in a minute. Across a whole stream, that is a lot of footage between the fights.

The fights that are worth a post usually come with talk: pings read out loud, a call to push, a teammate down, a scream when the squad wipes someone. ClipX transcribes the VOD and ranks those parts, so your review starts with the best of them.

How it works

1

Wait for the stream to save, then copy it

ClipX turns away live streams. After the broadcast, copy the VOD link from Twitch (twitch.tv/videos/ plus a number), YouTube or Kick.

2

Paste the VOD into ClipX

Paste it and state that you own the broadcast or have the streamer's approval. Twitch VODs listed under Apex Legends, and YouTube videos in Gaming, switch to Gaming / stream by themselves.

3

Review the ranked fights

Play the top clips first. Keep fights with a clear start and finish, and drop those that begin mid-chaos with no setup.

4

Clean up Legend names and export

Legend, weapon and location names are often misheard, so fix those caption words. Then export 1080x1920 MP4s on Pro.

What you get

  • Upright 1080x1920 video from any Twitch, YouTube or Kick VOD, or from your own file
  • Facecam + Video with the webcam on top and the fight underneath
  • Ranking that puts the squad's voices ahead of Legend voice lines
  • Clips that keep the push call and the reaction
  • Word-level captions, every word editable
  • Pro takes up to 12 hours per stream, clipped in parts of up to 3 hours

Which Apex fights make good clips

A battle royale has a built-in arc: the drop, the rotation, the fights and the final ring. The best clips come from the loud points along that path:

  • A hot drop where the squad lands next to other teams and the streamer narrates the scramble.
  • A squad wipe with the streamer calling targets during the fight.
  • A third party, where another squad arrives mid-fight and the plan changes on the spot.
  • A teammate's banner grabbed and brought to a beacon just in time.
  • A last-ring fight for the win, from the final rotation to the result.
  • A solo player left alive who clutches or goes down talking.

Facecam placement and the Apex HUD

Most Apex streams show the full game with a camera overlay tucked into a corner. Facecam + Video splits the 9:16 frame: the camera fills the top, the fight fills the rest. ClipX locates a webcam box automatically when it has visible edges. If it has none, line up the top crop by hand on each clip.

In the default HUD, the minimap is in the top left, the compass runs across the top centre, your squad's health bars are in the bottom left and your weapons and ammo are in the bottom right. Some elements can be adjusted in the settings, so look at the streamer's screen first. With the webcam stacked above, mid-height captions tend to work best, between the webcam and the crosshair and clear of both bottom corners. For a wide shot of the map or a ring closing, Full Fit + Title keeps the whole frame visible.

Clip length for Apex matches

Auto handles most Apex clips well: every clip covers its whole moment with a cap near 2:45, and the gaming rules hold the setup plus the payoff, targeting at least 20 seconds.

Short clips, below one minute, suit a single knock or a fast hot-drop fight. Medium, between one and three minutes, covers a full squad fight including the third party that followed. Long (3 to 5 minutes) fits an end-game from the last rotation to the win, which plays better on YouTube than in a short-form feed.

Squad comms, ranked games and ALGS watch parties

Apex is played in squads, and many streams carry teammates' voices. ClipX ranks the players' voices above in-game Legend lines, so squad banter counts. Remember that anyone heard in a clip also ends up in the captions; if a teammate is a stranger from matchmaking, consider whether to post it. Ranked games often give the tensest clips, since every decision costs or earns points and streamers tend to talk through them.

Apex Legends Global Series broadcasts belong to their organizers. A streamer who co-streams an ALGS event does so under the organizer's co-streaming terms, which may not allow reposted clips. Get the streamer's word on what is allowed before clipping one, and keep their reaction at the centre.

Clip Apex streamers who say yes

Your own VODs are fine. For someone else's stream, get their agreement first: some streamers run clipping programs with their own posting rules, and some refuse reposts entirely. Before ClipX touches a VOD, you declare that it belongs to you or that its owner allowed it.

Not affiliated with Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment

Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment do not endorse or sponsor ClipX, and ClipX is not affiliated with either company. Apex Legends is their trademark. The name appears here for one reason: to say which game's streams this tool is for.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free way to try the Apex Legends clip maker?

Yes: a free plan to try it (process, edit and preview; exports need Pro). Pro costs $4.99 for the first month, then $20/month or $200/year. Pro exports have no ClipX watermark.

Can ClipX tell when a squad gets wiped?

Not by looking. The kill feed, minimap and squads-left counter are never read. It finds clips from speech and reactions, so a wipe the streamer celebrates ranks well and a silent one usually does not.

How do I clip a ten-hour Apex stream?

Use Pro, which accepts streams up to 12 hours. Work through it three hours at a time: run one section, then add the VOD link once more and select the section after it.

Can ClipX upload my Apex clips?

Only YouTube Shorts has direct posting, on Pro. For TikTok or Reels, download the MP4 and share it through the app.

Is ClipX made by EA or Respawn?

No. Neither Electronic Arts nor Respawn Entertainment made, endorses or sponsors ClipX.
