Twitch Clip Maker

Turn a Twitch VOD into vertical clips for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels. Paste the VOD link, and ClipX finds the moments worth posting, puts your facecam over the gameplay and adds captions. One free video a day, up to 3 hours long.

One free video a day. No credit card. Cancel any time.

This page is for Twitch streamers, and for the editors who cut streams for them, who want short clips without rewatching a three-hour broadcast. A good stream has a handful of moments that work on their own: a clutch round, a chat exchange that lands, a story told between games. Finding them by hand means scrubbing the whole VOD. ClipX reads the broadcast for you and gives you a ranked list to review.

ClipX works from what is said on stream. It transcribes your voice, looks for a setup and a payoff, and cuts each clip so that it starts before the moment and ends after the reaction. You then check every clip in the editor, fix the framing or a word, and export the ones you want to post.

How it works

1

Copy the VOD link

Open the past broadcast on Twitch and copy its address: twitch.tv/videos/ followed by a number. Highlights use the same kind of link, and Twitch clip links (clips.twitch.tv/…) work too. A link to your channel page does not: ClipX needs a finished broadcast, so wait until the stream has ended and the VOD is saved.

2

Paste it and pick Gaming / stream

Sign in, paste the link and confirm that you own the stream or have the rights to use it. Set the content type to Gaming / stream (ClipX picks it for you when the VOD has a game category) and leave the clip length on Auto. The free plan takes one video a day, up to 3 hours long, the same length limit Pro has.

3

Review the ranked clips

ClipX transcribes the stream, picks the moments and ranks them, strongest first. With the gaming rules it listens to you and your teammates rather than in-game announcers, and it keeps both the setup and the reaction in each clip. Open any clip to trim it, fix a caption or change the layout.

4

Export and post

Pro exports each clip as a 1080×1920 MP4 with no watermark, ready for TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Reels. Pro can also publish to YouTube straight from ClipX. On the free plan you edit and preview every clip; exporting is on Pro.

What you get

  • Vertical 1080×1920 clips from Twitch VODs, highlights and clip links
  • Facecam + Video layout: your webcam on top, the gameplay below
  • Gaming rules on game categories: your voice counts over the game's, and each clip keeps its setup and its reaction
  • Word-by-word captions you can edit, in several styles
  • Clip length on Auto, or Short (under 1 min), Medium (1–3 min) or Long (3–5 min)
  • Streams up to 3 hours on every plan

Facecam over gameplay, framed for a phone

A stream is wide and your face is small. If you crop the middle of a 16:9 frame to 9:16, you usually lose either yourself or the action. The Facecam + Video layout splits the vertical frame in two: your webcam fills the top and the game fills the bottom.

ClipX looks for your camera box on its own. It finds a webcam overlay that has clear edges and stays in one place on screen. When your camera has no border, or sits inside a bigger panel, you set the top crop by hand once in the editor. If a clip has no facecam at all, pick Full Fit + Title or Center Crop instead.

What works, and what does not

Twitch links have a few rules. Knowing them saves a failed run.

  • Past broadcasts, highlights and Twitch clip links work.
  • Live streams do not. A stream that has not ended yet is refused; paste the VOD when it is saved.
  • Subscriber-only VODs do not. ClipX cannot open a broadcast that needs a login. Make the VOD public while it processes, or download it and upload the file (MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM, up to 500 MB).
  • Twitch deletes past broadcasts after a set time. Clip a stream while its VOD is still up, or save the part you want as a highlight.
  • ClipX finds moments in speech. Long stretches of silent gameplay give it little to work with; streams where you talk and react give the best clips.
  • A source over 3 hours is refused on every plan. For a longer stream, make a highlight under that length on Twitch first.

Tips from the team at ClipX

Leave the length on Auto. Stream moments rarely fit a fixed duration: a team fight plus the reaction runs longer than a one-liner. Auto lets each clip run to the end of its moment, up to about 2:45.

Make the first two seconds count. Trim the clip so it starts on the line or the play that sets it up, not on the quiet before it. If the first frame does not explain itself, the Full Fit + Title layout puts a hook line above the video.

Process game streams and Just Chatting streams as separate VODs. ClipX uses the stream's category to decide how to pick moments: a game category gets the gaming rules, and for Just Chatting you can choose IRL stream / funny moments.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Twitch clip maker free?

You can process one video a day for free, up to 3 hours long, and edit and preview every clip ClipX finds. Exporting finished clips needs Pro: $4.99 for the first month, then $20/month, or $200/year. Pro has unlimited videos and exports, with no watermark.

Can ClipX clip my stream while I am live?

No. ClipX works on finished broadcasts. Paste the VOD link once the stream has ended and Twitch has saved it.

What if ClipX does not find my webcam?

Pick Facecam + Video in the editor and set the top crop over your camera once. The bottom keeps the gameplay. You can also choose Face Zoom to follow your face, or Full Fit + Title to show the whole frame.

Can ClipX post my Twitch clips to TikTok?

Not directly yet. On Pro, ClipX publishes to YouTube for you; for TikTok and Instagram, download the MP4 and upload it in their apps.

Does it also work with Kick and YouTube streams?

Yes. Kick VODs and clips work, and so do YouTube live replays, in the same dashboard. The Kick clip maker and stream highlights pages cover the details of each.

Can I clip another streamer's VOD?

Only if that streamer has given you permission. Before anything is processed, ClipX has you confirm that the video is yours or that you may use it.
